but maybe you should have used a wider colorspectrum (lighter highlights, darker shadows) but that'd probably destroy that sad atmosphere

The hair doesn't seem to react to the light as much as the rest of the picture, though? Looking at just the hair, I wouldn't be able to tell where the light source is located.
